So… an internal memo from the National Institute of Justice has been leaked. And from it, we learn some valuable insight to their way of thinking as it pertains to reduction in gun violence.
A few key points:
- They know that “gun buybacks are ineffective.”
- They believe that “ammunition purchase logs [registration of ammunition purchases] are a means of checking for illegal purchases and for developing intelligence on illegal firearms.”
- They know that “assault weapons are not a major contributor to gun crime” and that “a complete elimination of assault weapons would not have a large impact on gun homicides.”
But still they persist.
