AG_Seal_Button_IconIf you are considering getting your KS Concealed Carry Handgun license, be prepared to wait.

I spoke to the Attorney General’s office today and was informed that the current wait time (once your application has been received) is right at 90 days. Today they were processing applications from December 7, 2012.

I was also informed by the AG’s office that we should expect that they will be exceeding the 90-day limit in the very near future.

Last week alone (2/25 – 3/1) the Attorney General’s office received 729 CCHL applications. And when you consider that they’re office is currently equipped to handle only 400 per month, it’s a miracle that they are processing them as quickly as they are.

I was told that the AG’s office has conducting interviews and will be hiring more investigators very soon.

It has also come to my attention that, in Shawnee and Wyandotte counties, the lead-time for a fingerprint appointment is around two months. So I would highly recommend scheduling your fingerprint appointment at the Sheriff’s Office before you even sign up for the class.

So… as soon as you are sure you decide that you want your KS Concealed Carry license, go ahead and book your class and schedule your fingerprint appointment. It won’t save you a lot of time. But it will save you some.

The line isn’t getting any shorter any time soon.
